Paul Simon performs “Sound of Silence” at the 9/11 memorial

At today's ceremony commemorating the tenth anniversary of 9/11, Paul Simon performed "The Sound of Silence" — a small change to the program as he was originally supposed to perform "Bridge Over Troubled Water."

Watch the clip above for the perfectly appropriate tribute that NPR's Margot Adler called "perhaps the most moving moment of the ceremony."

Simon was also the first musician to perform on Saturday Night Live after the attacks — click here to see his SNL performance of "The Boxer" for an audience that included a team of emergency responders and former Mayor Giuliani.
