So, as it turns out, the lost city of Atlantis might actually be a real place. As Japan struggles with the aftermath of last week's devastating tsunami, scientists say they have discovered the remains of Atlantis, the metropolis rumored to have been destroyed by a tsunami thousands of years ago. "This is the power of tsunamis," said a head researcher on the project, which, using radar and digital mapping, has pinpointed the city's location under the mud flats of southern Spain.
Researchers also found a number of "memorial cities" nearby thought to have been built by the Atlantis' refugees after the city was submerged. The research will be fully unveiled in "Finding Atlantis," which will air on the National Geographic Channel this coming Sunday. Odd and ominous timing, but still unbelievably cool.
