Starbucks to start selling booze

Starbucks

It probably won't help their "public bathroom" problem, but Starbucks is set to start selling beer and wine in selected locations, based on early success selling alcohol at stores in Seattle and Portland. Five new booze-friendly stores will open in Chicago by the end of 2012, as well as locations in Atlanta and southern California.

An official from the company explained, "As our customers transition from work to home, many are looking for a warm and inviting place to unwind and connect with the people they care about."

In other words, most people really need a drink (and some kind of fancy sandwich) before going home. And, Americans are now one step closer to becoming dependent on Starbucks for literally all of their daily needs — the only frontier left is high-tech nap stations, which I imagine are already in the works.

Now I don't have to modify my own latte to make it a Jose Cuervo non-fat venti latte.

I think this is great - they're evolving towards a European cafe style where you can have coffee or a beer or a glass of wine, and get something to eat. BTW their sandwiches aren't particularly "fancy" but they are decent value and quite tasty. Now if the coffee tasted Italian instead of just arriving in Italian-named paper cups...

Many states let you legally serve alcohol below 21. You can serve, but you can't drink.
