Transgender pastor to lead a Colorado church

Pastor Malcolm Himschoot

To put it mildly, Christianity has not always had the greatest relationship with the LGBT community. But one Colorado church hopes to change that, at least among its congregation and community. The Parker United Church of Christ has just hired Malcolm Himschoot, who is transgender, as their first full-time pastor. The church's motto is, "We welcome everyone who welcomes everyone else." And amazingly, they're living up to it.

According to the Denver Post, the church also officially identifies as Open and Affirming, which is "the designation for congregations, campus ministries, and other bodies in the United Church of Christ which make public statements of welcome into their full life and ministry to persons of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions." Kudos, Parker United, for not making all Christians look like intolerant hypocrites. Now if only those fear-mongering fundamentalists would take note.
