Westboro Baptist Church protesters

The Westboro Baptist Church accidentally performed their first Christian deed today: they cancelled their plans to picket the funeral of Christina Taylor Green, the nine-year-old girl shot by Jared Loughner. Loughner is the allegedly apolitical shooter who shot Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.

The folks at Westboro are well-known for picketing funerals: everyone from Matthew Shephard to the bodies of veterans killed in overseas wars has gotten their attentions — as part of a muddled message that's equal parts "Rage of God" and anti-homosexuality.

The exemplars of Christian values exchanged Christina's funeral for air time on a Canadian radio station. Don't worry though, the Westboro Baptist Church doesn't love Jesus enough to let everyone off the hook. They've already announced they will be picketing the funerals of the rest of the victims involved in the tragedy. Whew.
