Elisabeth Moss officially files for divorce from Fred Armisen

Sad news: it looks like the separation of one of Nerve's favorite celebrity couples, Mad Men's Elisabeth Moss and Saturday Night Live's Fred Armisen, is being made official. The couple were married in a little less than a year ago on October 25, 2009. The news of a separation first broke back in August, and I'm sure some people were hoping they could make it work, but now Moss has officially filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences.

While it is totally ridiculous to feel emotionally invested in a relationship between two people I've never met, and whom I only know through their respective television shows, I can't help but feel a bit sad about this. Moss and Armisen seemed like the kind of low-key, functional celebrity couple that could pull of that whole marriage thing. (Think Amy Poehler and Will Arnett.) (Also, I really hope I didn't just jinx their relationship.) Not to mention the fact that they're talented and likeable anyway, or that it's sad when anyone's relationship can't work.

Of course, there can't be a split in Hollywood without some kind of gossip to accompany it. What have you got for me, Us magazine?

"Her religion was as important to her as their marriage, if not more," another pal told Us. "He could not get with it."

"Her religion," of course, being Scientology, a fact which I try not to think about as often as possible. So that's one potential reason, not that it would make much difference to any of us. Here's hoping the break was as amicable as possible.
