When deciding where to tie the knot, trendy couples across the nation are eschewing cozy chapels and botanical gardens for a more value-conscious setting: their local funeral home.

Yes, where the dead people go. 

But American funeral parlors are apparently in the midst of a renaissance — or so their owners want you to think

Funeral homes are building and marketing such centers as not just a place to mourn the dead but as sites for events celebrating the living, including weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, holiday parties and proms.

The lure? It is often less expensive; there is greater availability; and the settings — inside and outside — can be nothing short of wedding-picture perfect.

In other words, straight people are having weddings all over the place, while gay people have to settle for Massachusetts.
