Online daters not as progressive on race as previously thought

Heidi Klum and Seal

It may seem like interracial romance is an acceptable, even normal part of American culture, but not so much in the online dating world. Statistics show most people still date almost exclusively within their own race.

According to a speed dating website, women are surprisingly less open about dating other races than we once assumed:

-Overall, 53.6 percent of women prefer to date within their own ethnicity compared with 42.9 percent of men.

-By age 60, the number of women who prefer to date exclusively within their own ethnicity rises to 70 percent compared to just 38 percent of men

-Pacific Islanders were the least conservative with only 12 percent, on average, dating exclusively within their own group compared to those of Caucasians backgrounds, who at 54 percent were the most conservative.

Their findings, which are based on a study of 1.7 million internet dating accounts over a year and a half, show that we still have a long way to go before we see more couples like Seal and Heidi Klum.
