Porn production shuts down in LA after positive HIV test

Porn industry protest

Porn production in Los Angeles has temporarily come to a halt after it was discovered that a performer is HIV-positive. Production companies were asked this week  by an industry group to voluntarily shut down filming until every actor who had performed with the person in question could undergo HIV testing, which is already mandatory every thirty days for adult actors in California.

Meanwhile, the AIDS Healthcare Foundation is working to push through a measure that would require porn actors to use condoms in order for production companies to receive permits within Los Angeles. "How many performers must become infected with HIV and other serious STDs before the industry will clean up its act and government will do the right thing?" said the foundation's president.

Activists have been circulating petitions and staging protests in hopes of getting the measure on the city's June 2012 ballot. Mandatory condoms in porn would be a pretty huge game-changer, and I have a feeling neither side is going to back down on this issue too willingly.
