Watch: Man proposes to girlfriend with NYC graffiti mural

It can be nice sometimes to be reminded of the grand gestures people sometimes make for love, like skywriting or taking a bullet. When your default mode is cynicism — and mine is, and I don't think it's a stretch to say the internet encourages it — you need some sincerity every now and then to exercise your tiny black heart. So here's a time-lapse video of one young man painting a large graffiti mural in the East Village asking his girlfriend to marry him. I don't think I'm ruining the ending when I tell you that she says yes.

…though I will say, there's a lot of pressure to say yes in such a situation simply so you don't look like a monster, so — damn it, there's that cynicism I was talking about.

For those of you who live in the New York City area, the mural is on Avenue A and 2nd Street, where it will remain for a month. So feel free to go see this wholehearted expression of young love. And, probably, some drunk people vomiting next to it.
