Since the rumors of the Arrested Development movie have been confirmed, nerds have turned their focus to another much-beloved but short-lived cult comedy.
The demand for a movie adaptation of Party Down began almost immediately after its departure from cable. Since then, cast members Ken Marino and Lizzy Caplan have spoken about the strong possibility of a film reunion, albeit with an air of caution, stating that the cast and crew (minus Jane Lynch) is on board, but that anything could happen.
Despite the hearsay, more positive news has come from Adam Scott during an interview on WTF With Marc Maron. The Parks and Recreation star mentioned that a "low budget" production is already in the works that plans to reunite the second season cast to wrap up their story of Hollywood ennui. Scott stated that shooting is ready to start, pending one last thing:
"There's a company that is interested in it, and they said they want to do it. It's just a matter of getting Starz to completely sign off on it and I think they're going to. They've been pretty cool about it."
While I'm excited for either show to make it to the theater, I'm afraid all my patience has been spent waiting for Mitchell Hurwitz to make up his mind. With production on both films not slated to start until this summer, we probably won't see a Party Down or Arrested Development flick until sometime during 2013. In the meantime, here's something to hold you over.
