Chloe Moretz to star in “Emily the Strange”

Chloe Moretz, the breakout star of Kick Ass with upcoming roles in both Let Me In and the adaptation The Invention of Hugo Cabret, has been chosen to star as Emily in the film version of fifty percent of Hot Topic's merchandise. (I kid, I kid. Emily the Strange started as a sticker, and eventually became a comic book. And then fifty percent of Hot Topic's merch.) Rob Reger, the creator of Emily, had this to say about the young actress:

When I first met Chloe I knew I found my Emily. She really identifies and understands the character, and has what it takes to bring her to life.

As someone who unfortunately had… I can't even call it a goth phase, that would be insulting to actual goths… let's call it a "mall goth" phase, I can't deny that I probably had a notebook with Emily the Strange on it. Accordingly, some sad adolescent part of me still cares about it; Moretz seems as fine a choice as any — at least her turn as Hit Girl shows she can muster up the proper level of misanthropy for the role.

So congratulations to her, even though there are probably hundreds of actresses in their early teens sticking a new pin into their Chloe Moretz voodoo dolls as I write this. Good luck on your journey towards getting every teenage girl role in Hollywood ever again. (As long as you stay away from The Hunger Games.)
