"Client 9" delves deep into Eliot Spitzer's downfall, sex life

Ashley Alexandra Dupre Eliot Spitzer scandal

Alex Gibney, who made the classic documentaries Enron: The Smartest Guys In The Room and Taxi To The Dark Side, is back in the director's chair with a hotly-anticipated feature on the Eliot Spitzer sex scandal. But does anyone still care about this widely-covered (and widely-uncovered) news story from two years ago?

Gibney is betting on it -- and so are the folks at Magnolia Pictures, who see it as their best chance in years at an Oscar for Best Documentary. The buzz is strong, according to Gothamist and IndieWire, but a November 5th release date could hurt it with a nation that will be sick of hearing about politics by then.

Check out the trailer and let us know if you think this is something you could stomach in the theaters:

I mean, i'll watch it, especially since it's an Alex Gibney joint, people have a high tolerance for salacious dirt, but it really didn't need to be made, another politician gets caught with his pants down, the girl does Playboy, etc. yawn. She'll probably be dating Benjy by December.

Maybe there should be a sci-fi film: "Client 9 From Outer Space".

And Spitzer could wear angora sweaters.

It actually looks pretty good, it's about the rise and fall of someone who was thought of as a savior for the working man, but like everyone else (and the CEOs he tried to take down) he is just a regular, flawed man.

That trailer pulled me in. I was hoping actually that they show a positive side of Spitzer since he was the only one fighting Wall Street while it was raping Main Street. I love that Greenberg, Bruno, and Lancone are covered. They basically got together and were committed to spending as much money as necessary to bring down Spitz.

I don't think I can stomach this. Almost everyone in it, including the pros and all the Wall Street typos, make me physically ill. Joe Bruno is a genuine political villain. Spitzer really messed up. He seemed to have a limitless future. A lot of people wish he was still governor.

I'd rather watch a doc about the prostitute.
