Elder abuse has found a lovable, wacky, and unexpected advocate in ninety-year-old Mickey Rooney, who testified yesterday at a panel for the Senate Special Commission on Aging.
"If elder abuse happened to me, Mickey Rooney, it can happen to anyone," he told the Commission, detailing abuse from his stepson. "My money was taken and misused. When I asked for information, I was told that I couldn't have any of my own information. I was literally left powerless. I couldn't muster the courage to seek the help I knew I needed."
Rooney said he had been deprived of both food and medication, and encouraged others to speak out on similar abuses. Stay strong, Mickey!
