Everyone's favorite romantic teen/aging curmudgeon, John Cusack, will soon play romantic (in the 19th century sense) curmudgeon Edgar Allen Poe in the forthcoming film The Raven. Neither a biopic nor an adaptation of Poe's most famous poem, the film (directed by V for Vendetta's James McTeigue) finds a heavily fictionalized Poe trying to solve a series of murders in 1850s Baltimore. (Sounds a little highbrow.) Chances are no one saw this coming back in Cusack's Better Off Dead days, but he's always had a gloomy streak — maybe Poe is just right for him. The Raven is set to come out next year.
