Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Holy casting news, Batman! After months of speculation, it's finally been confirmed — Joseph Gordon-Levitt will appear in Christopher Nolan's upcoming Batman flick, The Dark Knight Rises. He's set to play the villainous Alberto Falcone, the son of mob boss and Batman nemesis, Carmine Falcone (played by Tom Wilkinson in Batman Begins). But the real challenge for Gordon-Levitt will be getting the audience to believe that someone so adorable-looking is actually capable of committing evil-doings. I mean, just look at that cherubic, baby face. Maybe he intends to thwart the Caped Crusader with his dreamy stare?

It will be interesting to see how he fits in with the rest of the cast. Of course, Christian Bale is reprising the franchise's titular role. Plus Anne Hathaway is slated to play Selena Kyle/Catwoman, while Gordon-Levitt's Inception castmate Tom Hardy will play Bane, another villain. While the casting is pretty stellar thus far, can it, or any other superhero film for that matter, exceed the critical and commercial success of The Dark Knight?
