Tarsem Singh, director of Mirror, Mirror, recently said that his Snow White film would be "sickeningly kiddie," probably in an effort to distance it even further from Snow White and the Huntsman, which we now know is dark-with-a-capital-D. Now the first trailer has dropped, and while it's not quite as cotton-candy as Singh's description made it sound, it is certainly very different. And I think maybe I like this one more?
It's possible I'm just being confused by Armie Hammer's attractiveness — I will rub your belly any time, Armie, just let me know — but what I thought was going to be kind of goofy and annoying now seems kind of fun. The trailer makes Snow White pretty much a non-entity, which might be a bad sign for Lily Collins's performance, but I think it's a good choice. It gives us more time with Julia Roberts's enjoyably biting Evil Queen, who frankly seems like someone I would want to hang out with. And, again: Armie Hammer, very attractive.
But: huge loss of points for a "say hello to my little friend" joke. Can we just agree as a culture to kill that one? Thanks.
