Sean Penn's performances are almost always pleasant surprises (even when you think there's no way he can pull off a gay politician or a mentally challenged father), so I'll overlook snap judgements about his new role as an eighties goth rocker that looks suspiciously like Robert Smith. The film, This Must Be the Place, invokes the Talking Heads song of the same name, but no–it's not a David Byrne biopic either. ScreenCrave reports,
Penn plays a retired musician named Cheyenne who sets out to find his father’s persecutor, an ex-Nazi war criminal now hiding out in the U.S. He’s bored, he’s rich and he’s got nothing better to do so he takes his steel-toed boots and leather jacket with him on the road to find justice. Cheyenne and his father had been estranged for 30-plus years and only in his death has he decided to make things right. Will he take the high road or choose sweet and bloody revenge?
I don't know! I have no idea what these answers are. I'm just excited to see 90-plus minutes of Sean Penn walking around looking like a sad sack from eighties fringe pop-culture.
