Michael J Fox as Marty McFly in Back to the Future

Seeing anyone else besides Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly in Back to the Future is like some bad dream; an alternate reality that could only have happened if you went back to 1955 and decide to make some money using a sports almanac. But, it actually happened at one point during the production of the first film, with Eric Stoltz cast as McFly.

With the upcoming twenty-fifth anniversary of the film coming up, a new DVD and Blu-Ray box set will have the five weeks of unreleased footage shot with Stoltz acting alongside co-stars Christopher Lloyd and Crispin Glover. Apparently, after five weeks things weren't clicking with Stoltz and a decision was made by director Robert Zemeckis and producer Steven Spielberg to bring in someone else, and a franchise was born!

Of course, Stoltz went on to have a career of his own without Back to the Future and is probably happy that he never had to field a question about hoverboards, flux capacitors, or the space time continuum.
