If there's anyone who's a bigger muse for Johnny Depp than Tim Burton, it may well be Hunter S. Thompson. He spent countless hours shooting and drinking with the late journalist, starred as Thompson in the film adaptation of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and even organized the man's funeral. Now, Depp is starring in an adaptation of Thompson's novel The Rum Diary, playing Paul Kemp, basically a version of the author during his days as a journalist in Puerto Rico in the 1950s.
Based on the new trailer, embedded above, the movie looks like a very loose adaptation of the book, and pretty much consists of Depp's standard woozy and skeptical routine. Not sure how excited I am for this one, but let's be honest, I'm sure I'll end up seeing it anyway.
