And so, what started as a bunch of meta jokes between the movies of Grindhouse directors Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino has gone ahead and spawned again: Machete's coming back.
In an interview with Deadline, Rodriguez announced that he's going full-throttle in making the sequel, entitled Machete Kills, which will feature the titular badass:
[R]ecruited by the U.S. Government for a mission which would be impossible for any mortal man. Machete must battle his way through Mexico to take down a madman cartel leader and an eccentric billionaire arms dealer who has hatched a plan to spread war across the planet with a weapon in space. Machete takes on an army in an effort to dismantle a plan for global anarchy.
Okay then! No doubt it will feature much violence and Danny Trejo's squinty faces of anger.
The film is the second in a planned trilogy (or, more accurately, thrill-ology!) that will no doubt be accompanied by coverage about how little money Rodriguez was able to put together these movies for. Which, you know, isn't really that big of a story and/or deal since the savings, of course, will not be passing along to the consumer, who will be forced to spend the usual $15 or so a ticket. No word yet on whether or not CGI programmers will once again spend time coercing their computer pixels to look approximately like Jessica Alba's breasts.
