Listen: Kid Cudi's debut rock single

Kid Cudi has been threatening to cross over from rap into rock for a while now, and it looks like he's making good on it with his new, questionably named band 2 Be Continuum, which just dropped its first single. "Perfect Is the World" builds on a lot of the hazy, atmospheric effects he played around with on his first two albums, but to be honest, the results really aren't great.
Cudi himself even seems to have known the crossover backlash was coming, and let loose a series of belligerent tweets to go along with the single, saying, "If you want my old shit, buy my old albums." Um, I think I actually might?
I don't want to pigeonhole him into only making the kind of bouncy stoner jams that he started out with, but I also had to force myself to sit through "Perfect Is the World" in its entirety. Maybe I'm overreacting, though — take a listen below, and let us know what you think in the comments.

I kept waiting for the song to start, or do something.
It never did. Felt like one long prelude to something else.
Dear. God. His crossover into "rock" went terribly off course somewhere around the first note.
Unlike the many other successful hip hop-rock crossovers. Weird.
Erase Me was a pretty great song. What happened.
An interesting song. I'm a pretty big fan of Cudi and while this isn't a great song, it seems to me that he could make good rock music. At the end of the day, we always complain when an artist keeps making the same stuff and Cudi has shown me an ability to try new things. Whether or not they work out, i appreciate him for his effort
There was some potential but I didn't really like it all that much. I hope the crossover works out though because I think he could do it, so I will toss this aside when more comes out.
WTF was that?
