Are you a super-rich Flaming Lips fan? Do you have a taste for the macabre? If the answer to both those questions is yes, then listen up: frontman Wayne Coyne has announced that copies of their upcoming Record Store Day release, The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends — which features guest appearances from the likes of Neon Indian, Yoko Ono, Bon Iver, Erykah Badu, and Ke$ha — will include the collaborators' blood. (Super-secret special bonus: hep C!) Here is Coyne explaining the project to MTV Hive:
"What I’m going to try to do — and I’m collecting stuff for it as we speak — is I’m going to try to make a record that has every person’s blood in the record. I don’t have everybody’s blood just yet, but I collected quite a few vials of blood and it’s actually sitting in my refrigerator as we speak."
Of course, you can only drain so much blood from Bon Iver, so there will only be a few copies, probably around five or six. Beyond that, each will feature its own unique design, so you can expect the price to be pretty high. But even if you're not asking for pints, it's a bit more difficult to get blood from these rockers than you might expect. "You don’t really realize how many people are afraid of needles until you say, ‘Hey, I’m going to send someone by the show tonight to get some of your blood," Coyne said.
Coyne is being tight-lipped about which guests' vital fluid he already has, but this Flaming Lips fan site is keeping track of likely suspects, mostly based off clues found on Twitter. (They're more compelling than they sound.) It looks like Neon Indian and Prefuse 73 have definitely given up the goods, and yes, Ke$ha is a very strong possibility. So… if that is a thing you want, congratulations. That is a thing you may be able to have.
