These are your 2012 Grammy Award nominees

The 2012 Grammy Award nominations were announced late last night, and all I can say is: What the what? I know people don't have a lot of faith in the Grammy Awards, so one shouldn't expect too much of them, but the list of nominees this year is flat-out weird. It feels like the voters did some whippets and then threw darts at iTunes' top 100 downloads list, but realized they broke the computer screen after the third dart, so they just said "fuck it" and let their teenage children fight it out. (Okay, okay — it's not all bad. Adele, Bon Iver, Kanye, Robyn, Radiohead: congrats.)

You can find the whole list here, but here are some of the big ones, for what it's worth:

Here are a few collected thoughts:

1. I still don't know the difference between Album of the Year and Record of the Year, but one thing I do know is that Rihanna's Loud and Katy Perry's "Firework" do not belong in those categories, even though they are both obviously my jam.

2. Skrillex, really? I know that he's big with the whippersnappers, and I think it's dandy that dubstep is finally getting some attention, but his hair is the worst and his songs make me think of the old dial-up noise, and not in a good way. Because sometimes I actually YouTube that noise and listen to it all the way through. Can we nominate that noise in his place?

3. DeBarge?! Hey, everyone, DeBarge is still alive! I thought he was dead, but it turns out I was thinking of the lady from La Bouche.

But don't just let me have all the fun. Leave your reactions, be they horrified or excited or whippet-induced, in the comments.
