These days, it's pretty much assumed politicians will either sext money shots or have gay sex in bathrooms at one point or another. So it's hard to remember just how shocking the Lewinsky scandal was back in the good old '90s. But shocking it was, and former Clinton aides are opening up about the affair in a new PBS documentary on the President. The best insider knowledge comes from Dick Morris, Clinton's former campaign manager.
Morris says Clinton confided in him when the news was just starting to get out. "[Clinton] said, 'Ever since I got here to the White House I've had to shut my body down, sexually I mean, but I screwed up with this girl. I didn't do what they said I did, but I may have done so much that I can't prove my innocence."
Before they did any damage control, Morris says he ran polling on whether the American public could handle the President's affair. As with most people who get cheated on, it turned out the people didn't care so much about the actual sex as the lying about it. Which is why you have to wonder why Clinton tried to lie about it anyway. Maybe all that "shutting his body down sexually" made him ignore field polls too.
