At the Thanksgiving Family Forum in Iowa Saturday, GOP candidate/guardian of upstanding moral righteousness/giant pumpkin with teeth and hair Newt Gingrich said that Occupy Wall Street protesters are "a pretty good symptom of how much the left has collapsed as a moral system in this country." "All the Occupy movement starts with the premise that we all owe them everything," Gingrich said. "They take over a public park they didn't pay for, to go nearby to use bathrooms they didn't pay for...[that's] why you need to reassert something by saying to them, 'Go get a job after you take a bath.'" The audience burst into loud applause after Gingrich's remarks, and then proceeded to choke to death on their own noxious fumes of self-satisfaction. I mean, not really, but fellow GOP candidate/OWS critic Herman Cain did give Gingrich a particularly appreciative eye-fuck afterwards.

While there's a fair amount of criticism to be aimed at aspects of the OWS movement, the categorization of all protesters as shiftless, patchouli-stinking hippies is lazy and irresponsible. Despite what Thanksgiving Family Forum audience members might think, there are a lot of people in this country who are pissed off for a whole mess of valid reasons, and surprisingly few of them are jam-band fans with a predilection for drum circles. Anyway, it's a bit rich hearing about the collapse of the "moral system in this country" from a serial adulterer who remains the only Speaker of the House ever to have been disciplined for ethics violations.

Morality according to Gingrich: Dumped wife #1 for wife #2 while wife #1 was in the hospital recovering from cancer surgery. As in literally went to the hospital to present her with divorce papers while she was recovering from surgery for uterine cancer. He eventually dumped wife #2 for wife #3 shortly after wife #2 was diagnosed with MS back in 1999. And he was having the affair on wife #2 with wife #3 while he was turning the country upside down trying to drive Bill Clinton from office over his affair with Monica Lewinsky.

A job according to Gingrich: Helping to secure Health IT earmarks for GE, Microsoft, IBM. “Consulting” the Ethanol Lobby. Lobbying to deregulate insurers, while accepting hundreds of thousands from health insurance corporations. “Sharing resources” with the oil industry’s top lobbyists. Selling his “strategic advice” to lobbying giants like the U.S. Chamber Of Commerce. Getting paid between $1.6 million and $1.8 million in "consulting fees" by Freddie Mac ending only after the housing meltdown forced the federal government to take over the failing mortgage giant.

Even Gingrich's daughter disputes the story of his bringing up the divorce in the hospital.

But don't let a good story get in the way of accuracy.

Nov 20 11 - 11:41pm
The divorces alone

are all the "facts" we need about his moral pontification.

That is correct GD, you don't know what you are talking about. Bill is still married to Hillary and he has supported her career. He was never a big fucking hypocrite regarding 'morality'. Why is it that the neo cons want to tell everyone how to behave, and then go do what they were railing about, from adultery, sex with gays, graft, corruption, every stinking thing that comes out of their mouths.

I'm not sure a former Speaker of the House, college professor, PhD cares much about being insulted by a blogger on nerve. You may have been first to the punch, Newt, but it wasn't a very good punch.

Considering

the actual flesh and blood Paul Krugman said it first about Newt, you might want to retool your education standard for legitimate criticism. Furthermore, Newt doesn't care what ANYONE says about him: The true mark of an ignorant megalomaniac.

Yes Newt the OWS should get jobs and take baths, blah, blah, blah. While we're handing out advice you should exercise a little because that waddle is unsightly. I was really hoping that slick Rick would have pulled out some snakes and crazy girl would have brought some strychnine to the jesus camp wankfest called a debate the other night.

Nov 21 11 - 10:06pm
4th Amendment

Non-violent protesters do not surrender their Fourth Amendment Rights to be free from excessive force by police. Specifically, non-violent protesters may sue police and the municipality of county that employs them under this Federal law, 42 United States Code Section 1983 if they have been pepper sprayed while peacefully protesting, whether or not the protesters were arrested.

If you're referring to the activities of the Davis police, refer to the article on that subject and you'll see that I likely agree with you.

I suggest that the Fifth Amendment or the Eighth Amendment are more appropriate for what you cite; the 8th for cruel or unusual punishment, perhaps, but more likely the 5th that recognizes the right to due process.

What the GOP seems to be forgetting is that the "Need to get a job after taking a bath"- Gingrich, "Mob"-Cantor, "Un-American"-Cain and the oh so "Dangerous"-Romney and the "ignorant"-Bachman are voters in the 2012 general election. Being and seeing folks peppered sprayed in the face then being told to "Get a job after taking a bath" is something thousand of these voters will not forget when they cast their vote in 2012.
