Normally I like to root for paunchy history geeks in their attempts to
get laid find love, but you have to draw the line somewhere. According to a new interview with Newt Gingrich's ex-wife Marianne, the Republican Presidential hopeful attempted to open their marriage in order to sleep with his current wife, Callista. Marianne also says in the interview that Gingrich doesn't have the "moral character" to be President.
Obviously, Gingrich and co. have tried to keep the interview, which will be featured on Nightline tonight, from airing, calling the whole thing "simply wrong." It also happens to land just in time for the crucial South Carolina primary. But not to worry, now that it can't be stopped, this classy elder statesman will be taking the high road:
"I'm not going to say anything negative. I think people who have known me a long time are credible on my character," Gingrich said, adding, "People will have to judge me. But sixteen and twenty-year-old stories, you know, we have real stories this week on the failure of the Obama administration."
He may be right that it's old news, but an open marriage is a little, uh, "progressive" for a potential GOP candidate. Hope Rick Perry's not regretting that endorsement! Watch below for a clip of the interview.
