Republicans try to limit abortion funding to cases of “forcible rape,” as opposed to the other, voluntary kind

R-N.J. Congressman Chris Smith

In a staggering display of Orwellian language-manipulation, caveman-level ethics, and ghoulishly bad taste, House Republicans have drafted a bill limiting federal abortion funding to cases of "forcible rape." Federal funding for abortion is already limited to cases of rape, incest, and medical danger. Mother Jones explains that the "No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act" would

rule out federal assistance for abortions in many rape cases, including instances of statutory rape… rapes in which the woman was drugged or given excessive amounts of alcohol, rapes of women with limited mental capacity, and many date rapes.

Way to go, America! "Forcible rape!" Watch out for that forcible rape, but be sure to enjoy all those consensual rapes and the unwanted offspring they'll be producing! Good thing this sickeningly regressive legislation will probably never pass. Bad thing we live in a country where large groups of people actually consider this kind of thing reasonable. Read the rest at Gawker, because I'm too disgusted to continue.
