Rick Santorum scolds boy for using pink bowling ball
By Sean MorrowMarch 29th, 2012, 5:30 pmComments (17)
Hey guys, Rick Santorum said something silly again! At some kind of bowling event, Santorum told a young boy, "You're not gonna use that pink ball. We're not gonna let you do that. Not on camera." Santorum then stole the brilliant joke "friends don't let friends use pink balls" from AP reporter Phil Elliott, kind of like when you say a joke too quietly and then your friend says it louder and everyone laughs and you shake your fist at the heavens.
Of course, people didn't like this. The Human Rights Campaign said “This is another example of Rick Santorum intentionally making ignorant statements that have a real impact on LGBT people." Yeah, it was a dumb thing to say, but did this have a real impact on LGBT people? It was just a dumb guy being dumb. I don't think there's anyone out there whose confidence weighs on the balance of Rick Santorum's color choices; everyone knows he's a big, simple, ignorant bigot. We don't need to prove he's a homophobe. He's proud of it, and the voters who like him already know that.
Oh, and I feel like a joke about Rick Santorum needlessly enforcing his antiquated beliefs onto other people's balls is kind of required for this story. Could you guys just make them in the comments?

He just can't seem to help himself from going ass to mouth.
First off, let me say that I think Rick Santorum is an ignorant horse's ass (not to offend horses' asses.) But the problem I had with HRC's response was that it assumes that little boys playing with pink automatically translates to homosexuality. Now, Santorum was an idiot because he evidently does conflate gender norms and heterosexuality, but I don't like that HRC is subtlety doing the exact same thing. Why can't a straight boy like pink? I think this is one of those times when a broader non-bullying message is appropriate.
I'm out-and-proud myself, by the way.
Well said.
Completely agreed.
and go back in.
i grew up in an era where a pink shirt or a pierced right ear automatically meant you must be gay. Aren't we beyond that now? I guess not.
I don't hate conservatives like many around this neck of the woods, but Santorum just confuses and infuriates me. How is he still hanging around? How????????
Isn't bowling as a whole a gay sport?
It's not even a sport which is so gay.
Santorum needs a swift kick in *his* pink balls. About 10,000 times.
Let's be real now. Those homophobic protesters and gender binary lovers are all insecure of their own sexuality. If Rick came out of the closet, he'd be a lot happier with his life.
We all know Rick doesn't like sticking it in the pink.
Reply-to isn't working for me, but td above hit my thought on the head.
That's unfortunate -- can you let me know what broswer you're running? When you say it's not working, do you mean the captcha or the comment functionality itself?
Silly. Everyone knows Rick prefers blue balls!
It's becoming increasingly more and more difficult to be a Republican these days. Gawd what happened, we used to be for something... Now it's a bunch of Wal-mart republicans and people who couldn't start a business and employ people....
Alex, I'm using iOS on an iPad. I can post new comments but can never reply; the insertion point is all messed up such that I can't see what I'm writing.
Ditto for the iPhone. I posted the other day, that the commenting system is horrendous on the iPhone.
rick, gay panic much? geez....
