Target amends donation policy after contributing to anti-gay politician

After causing quite the controversy for contributing funds to anti-gay Minnesota gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer last year, Target has established a new committee to oversee political donations, reports The Advocate. This is good news for any of us who want to be able to purchase cheap household goods without feeling like guilty scumbags.

According to Target spokeswoman Jessica Carlson, the committee is "responsible for balancing our business interests with any other considerations that may be important to our team members, our guests or other stakeholders." This sounds all good and dandy until you realize they won't explicitly announce whether or not they're working directly with gay-rights advocates in the process, which would seem to be the most obvious way to rectify past misgivings. But Carlson did say that Target plans to endorse pride events in San Francisco and Chicago. Perhaps it's a good start, but are they doing enough to get supporters of LGBT rights back into their stores?
