Not to be overshadowed by yet another contentious GOP debate, President Obama broke out some of the charm that got him elected in the first place last night, singing a few lines of Al Green's "Let's Stay Together" to a crowd at the Apollo theater in Harlem.

As a nod to Rev. Green, who was in the audience at the fundraiser alongside Spike Lee, Obama launched into the first line of the song, then joked that his campaign team "didn't think I was gonna do it," adding, "Don't worry, Rev. I cannot sing like you. But I wanted to show my appreciation."

So smooth! So dulcet! So much cooler than your average political speech! Will Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich retaliate by gracing crowds with their favorite Michael Bolton and Pat Boone jams, respectively? One can only hope.
