Watch Rick Santorum get glitter-bombed again

Rick Santorum, belatedly-crowned victor in the Iowa caucuses, was glitter-bombed yet again, following his post-primary speech at The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina Saturday evening. Protesters had also been ejected from a Santorum rally in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. on Thursday after throwing glitter and chanting against Santorum's backward positions on social issues. The father of seven had also been a victim of the soft, irridescent assault during a December 30 campaign stop in Johnston, Iowa, where a man had flung glitter on Santorum while exclaiming, "Stop the hate! Taste the rainbow!"

Saturday's ambush was organized by Occupy Charleston, apparently comprised mostly of College of Charleston students. A woman shouting "Hate! Gay rights!" threw the glitter on Santorum, who never stopped smiling, before being escorted out by security. One of the Duggar sons was also an accidental casualty of the sneak attack, and that's just unacceptable. Protesters chanted, among other things, "You're a bigot! Rick Santorum is a bigot! You hate gays, you hate gays!" and "Hatemonger!" Fortunately, Santorum was not wearing one of his vaunted sweater-vests, which would have made for some pesky, sparkle-bit extraction. In fact, no glitter could be discerned on Santorum during a later Fox News interview.

Santorum finished a distant third in the South Carolina primary, behind Mitt Romney, with Newt Gingrich and Reagan conservatism winning in a landslide. He's been trying to win over evangelicals by making the case that he's the boring but stable social conservative you can trust, playing up his labor roots in Pennsylvania mining country. He will move on to Florida, and possibly more glitter and pies, as his campaign's honorary chairman there, O'Neal Dozier, once said that gays "make God want to vomit."
