Hillary Clinton

Earlier this week, we heard about how Fox News can't open up shop in Canada because of a Canadian law that prohibits 'false and misleading news.' Given that our neighbors are legally classifying our major news outlets as bullshit, this shouldn't be that surprising, except that it's Hillary Clinton who's saying it. The U.S. Secretary of State went out on a limb and suggested that the major American news networks are not the apogee of impartial reporting.

Interestingly, she thinks Al Jazeera is pretty great. In a statement that's guaranteed to cause some conservatives to spew out mouthfuls of coffee and take to their blogs in rage. You know, because it's Arab and often critical of American foreign policy. She said:

Al Jazeera has been the leader in that [it is] literally changing people's minds and attitudes. And like it or hate it, it is really effective... In fact viewership of al Jazeera is going up in the United States because it's real news. You may not agree with it, but you feel like you're getting real news around the clock instead of a million commercials and, you know, arguments between talking heads and the kind of stuff that we do on our news which, you know, is not particularly informative to us, let alone foreigners.

I've admittedly never watched Al Jazeera — though it is available in this country. Hillary's praise, coupled with my overall fatigue for mainstream news on both sides of the aisle, might make me start.

Poor Hillary. She is completely correct, and she is going to completely get skewered.

Yes - again.

Typical responses: "I've never seen Al Jazeera, but it must be truthful because Hillary said so." Explains how Obama got elected.

She should get skewered. Not because she said that Fox and Cnn are not real news, but because she seems to say that Al-Jazeera isn't biased. Of course, that is someone who has come out as generally agreeing with the "arab point of view" everywhere in the Middle East, from Iraq to Israel.

At least some people can see that there is actually an "Arab point of view" worthy of being listened to.

This makes me like Hillary Clinton a lot more.

Me too, she is being honest and is correct. A republican would never say this which is why I'm not one.

Wow, that took guts to say. I've never seen Al Jezeera either, so I don't know if she's right, but she is going to catch some flak for this.

Do you guys think she actually means this, or was it a horrible gaffe?

My, that's refreshing. Definitely give Al Jez a go people. There are some very smart international journos working for them with sound pedigrees in reputable news organisations familiar to a Western palette. Quite a change from those botoxed goons with the beady eyes on the US news networks who you always half expect to start peeling off their human skin, reveal alien reptilian forms and confirm humans as their food source...

What? Cartoon Network News is no longer "The Worldwide Leader in News"? Saints preserve us.

The only news I trust is The Onion.

She should be the president right now. A pity.

She's already under attack for this from the usual frothing suspects.

You mean the "Santorum Squad" at Fox right?

The fact that this will be debated by said talking heads will ironically prove her point.

I've been following the upheaval in Libya on Al Jeezera and I have to say that Hillary is dead on with her comments.

It really is, though. It's like what if there was a news show on TV. Crazy, but true. You can watch it on Roku for free.

Yeah, no Fox News in Canada. Except there is Fox News in Canada. The "source" cited is bogus. Google it and educate yourselves.
Now here's one for you: "Everyone" (read left of center) hates Fox because it is, they say, biased and attempts to change the hearts and minds of viewers. But Hilary Rodham likes Al Jazeera. Why? Because it has been effective changing the hearts and minds of viewers. Laughable. Why can't we get some pro-American politicians in Washington for a change?

Biased is fine, I'll listen to anyone intelligent with a view that is different from mine; it's lying, fabricating fake information, and spinny "commentary" by frothing partisans that I have a problem with. Truth - even hand picked truth - will always change hearts and minds.
