James Van Der Beek* has really decided that the only way his career is going to flourish is if he goes really meta with it, hasn't he? First there was James Van Der Memes, and now he's landed a role on ABC's upcoming — and, apparently, hilarious — sitcom "Don't Trust The Bitch In Apt. 23." (Why do I get the feeling that name won't be making it to the final stage?) According to Vulture:
In the Bitch pilot, Van Der Beek will serve as the best friend to Chloe (a.k.a. "the bitch"). Earlier this month, Krysten Ritter (Gilmore Girls) landed the Chloe role; Dreama Walker (The Good Wife) is set to play Chloe's naive new roommate. Bitch creator Nahnatchka Khan has always envisioned a role for a celebrity in her show: The first draft of the script actually had a character named Lance Bass.
Hoo boy, they dodged a bullet with that one. (Seriously, his IMDb page reads like that of a gay porn star trying to go mainstream. Cameo in I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry? Blergh.)
Anyway, good on Van Der Beek for figuring out what works for him and really going for it. If this works out better than Jennifer Grey's turn on It's Like, You Know as Jennifer Grey, we could be speeding toward a future in which all four principal leads of Dawson's Creek are still successful.
*Number of times you need to type out his full name before it become gibberish: three.
