After much speculation, it's finally been confirmed. Katie Couric has snagged a deal with ABC to host a syndicated daytime talk show. She's set to fill the Oprah-sized hole left in the network's schedule — because someone has to emotionally manipulate your mom at three p.m. every weekday afternoon. Couric will serve as host and producer and will also contribute to ABC News programs as well.
It will be interesting to see what direction Couric's show will go in. Will there be harrowing human-interest stories? Hawking of the latest consumer goods? Book clubs? Lots of free swag for audience members? All this remains uncertain, with Couric simply stating:
"I'm very happy to be returning to the network where I began my career as a desk assistant in 1979. It is tremendously exciting to have the creative freedom to develop my own show … and to contribute to such a vibrant, innovative news division. I can't wait to be part of this incredibly talented, visionary team."
We have a feeling it will probably be something like Oprah 2.0, but without the car giveaways until at least season five.
