Keith Olbermann will become the Chief News Officer at Current TV and host a new program on that station, he just announced on Twitter. Current TV is a public-affairs channel, cofounded by former Vice President Al Gore.

Current is a smaller station than MSNBC — Olbermann's previous home. Current is currently available in sixty-million homes, whereas MSNBC is seen in eighty-five. But given his large popular following, there's a good chance that an Olbermann show on Current will bring an entirely new audience to the network.

Olbermann left his job as the host of Countdown with Keith Olbermann on January 21, after suffering a suspension earlier that month. Before Tweeting the news of his new gig, he joked about joining the Yankees: Keith Olbermann tweet
