In disgusting-reality-show news, NBC and parent company Comcast have decided, at the last minute, to yank a controversial episode of Fear Factor featuring contestants drinking a mug of donkey sperm with a urine chaser, that was set to air Monday night.
"Hee Haw! Hee Haw!" was slated to be the season finale, but will now be replaced by a repeat episode entitled "Snake Bite," which previously aired on January 2. Fear Factor execs were already on the fence about running the episode, filmed last summer, after advocacy group the American Donkey & Mule Society, stated that they don't "condone use of the animals in such a manner." They added, "We feel this is a negative event and was not well thought out by the producers."
Fear Factor has previously heard it from the American Humane Association, and, a few years back, was sued for $2.5 million by a viewer who complained the show gave him high blood pressure and caused him to vomit. (The suit was tossed on First Amendment grounds.) Regarding the donkey show, host Joe Rogan had previously stated:
"They're not even sure if they're going to air it. It's so over the top and ridiculous. When they told me, I really thought they were joking at first. I don't know where the debate is, but NBC is not sure if they're going to air it."
Fear Factor is lucky to even be back on NBC, after originally being replaced by Joey (!). Reruns from the first six seasons scored decent ratings on the Chiller horror channel, which explains the show's resurrection. But they don't need to push the gross-out envelope like this. They should just stick with normal, non-disgusting stuff like eating bull testicles.
