Salman Rushdie's creating a TV series for Showtime. Though he's probably a pretty high-brow reference point, Rushdie's never been shy about branching out, cowriting a remarkably bearable song with U2, adapting his own Midnight's Children into a screenplay (currently in production), and of course, creating Bravo's hit Top Chef as a star-making opportunity for his ingrate of an ex-wife, Padma Lakshmi. (That is a joke. Not even the world's most diabolical novelist could've invented Marcel Vigneron.) All we know about the show so far is that it's a drama that "dissects different aspects of contemporary American life." Not very much to go on, but we're curious to see how this comes out.
