HBO's Eastbound and Down is surely among the greatest comedies about washed-up shitheads ever made, and probably one of the greatest comedies about failure overall. Having watched the first season over and over and obsessively quoted it with most of my friends, I'm ecstatic about the second season, which premieres on September 26th.
More Eastbound and Down is exciting not just because season one was hilarious and quotable, but because it was also unpredictable (sometimes to a fault), veering from over-the-top comedy (Kenny Powers' climactic showdown at Ashley Schaeffer BMW) to downbeat realism (the startlingly bleak ending of the season finale). The creators never really played it safe, and it looks like they're taking some risks this time too, relocating the action to Mexico and featuring almost all new characters. Will Kenny find redemption? Will Mexico listen to his dancing feet? We can but wait. Check out the new trailer for season 2 below.
