As we told you last summer, the shadowy Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers decided to support the creation of a porn-exclusive domain. And yesterday, ICANN met at the Philip K. Dick Building of International Machinations to grant final approval for the new ".xxx" domain.

The domain was approved despite protests from both religious groups, who are afraid that it would legitimize porn, and the online-porn industry, which doesn't want to see its sites ghettoized and possibly subject to censorship.

But we know what you, Joe Pervert, really care about: what does this mean for the current sites you've grown to love? They should be just fine. Says Wired,

The domains will be limited to the adult industry, and ICM says adult sites that already own .com [top-level domains] will be able to reserve their .xxx domains early so that they can “protect their brand names and intellectual property rights within .xxx.”

This also means that it's time to start brainstorming new traffic-friendly sites while they're still available. Beat Charlie Sheen to CharlieSheen.xxx!
