Social media overtakes porn as the number-one online activity

With Facebook surpassing Google as the most trafficked site on the internet last year, it shouldn't really come as a surprise that people are more likely to play Farmville or constantly refresh their ex's profile page than look at nude photos online. Social media has now overtaken porn as the biggest internet time waster. (And here I was thinking the number-one online activity was captioning LOL cats.) This fact comes via a video created by Erik Qualman, author of a book called Socialnomics. The infographic-filled clip is chock full of fascinating statistics. For instance, one in five couples blames Facebook for their divorce (ew) and three in five gay couples meet online (aw).
As far as porn and social media go, as Anthony Weiner has notoriously illustrated, platforms like Facebook and Twitter can help facilitate sexual encounters, so the two are far more enmeshed than the video makes them out to be. But it's still interesting to see just how widespread, ubiquitous, and influential websites with "poking" functions have become.

Finally, the human race is thinking about something other than masturbating. Wait, are they...
Right now instead of masturbating to pornstars they don't know, they masturbate to hot people they do know.
What the hell is wrong with kids these days?
Seriously, though, I have doubts about the validity of the statistics in this video - just typical tech industry cheer-leading to justify the next stock bubble. Plus, I resent the crass use of the really beautiful music from Sid Meier's Civilization IV.
where does reddit fall on this scale? or 4chan? I'd love to see representatives from each site fight. IRL, as they say.
Thats because people are having more sex than whacking off .. http://OneHotNight.com
