Watch this amazing compilation of one-second short films

Themed film festivals are a tricky bunch. Generally, there's only so much you can say on a specific topic or using certain parameters before redundancies start to show or, more likely, the audience begins to OD on whatever particular look is being organized. Sure, that week-long festival of film noirs in San Francisco sounds like a great idea now, but see if you ever want to sit through another one again after three days of constantly watching femme fatales, wise-cracking gumshoes, and stark black-and-white photography.

(Actually, now that I type that out, I'm booking my ticket as soon as I finish up this post.)

Which is why when I first heard about The Beauty Of A Second short film festival, I was skeptical. Won't it just turn into a bunch of random junk? How invested can you get in a one-second piece of film anyway? Well, if it's anything like this compilation of sixty of the best one-second films thus far entered, then it's going to be a piece of amazing beauty you don't see too often. The whole thing feels like an extended trailer for Terrance Malick's The Tree of Life. Sit back, press play, watch, and enjoy.
