Wondering why such small, low-resolution images here and in many of the other galleries I've seen so far. Very disappointing as there is heavy pixelation and the images don't look nearly as rich as they should.
Please, Nerve, improve the quality of your images.
At first I felt like I was looking at a medical book. The subject is isolated and depersonalized.Never once was I 'turned on'.But the vaginal portals reminded me of roses. Some just beginning to bud, while others have opened full. The photography is artistic and sympathetic.I don't think for one minute these samples encompass the whole subject.Since I have never seen the subject portrayed this way,I think Beth B. has done a good job in presenting her vision to me.What a noble thing the vagina.
I want to thank and compliment Beth B. on her photo exhibition, consisting entirely of vulvas. Her comment to the interviewer echoes a thought I have had many times about how our culture teaches us to regard each vagina (and vulvi) as the same. The only thing that strikes me as consistently true is that they all look very cuddly and in need of some "full-filling." But perhaps even that is just my male bias.
The photos show some (*but not all) of the varieties I myself have seen and become so very enamoured with. Of course the contents of the woman are of essential importance, but isn't that the nature of variety, to be able to focus on different aspects of a given individual? We are one species, but not manufactured from a blueprint at a factory in different model years and stylings. A thoughtful piece of work. Thoughtful and stimulating. Thank Beth B. for me.
I am a photographer and specialize in black& white. These images are excellent. You captured the beauty of the vulva; the unique form and composition that makes each woman, person different. An awesome, beautiful boquet of flowers. I would like to see you widen the scope of each image that would encompass each woman's pubic mound, bottom, and inner thighs. This would enhance sensuality and add to already incredible images.
Thank you!
Me beeing male, just love the female form in every way. "Portraits" Depicts the female genitals in all their natural and glorious variation. I think it might also help those women that might think they are unusual "down there", since they might not talk about it with their friend. I know my girlfriend has had her doubts about her genitals, even though I've tried to convince her its beautiful and nothing abnormal about it at all, which is all true. I think "Portraits" might make girls like my woman realise They are normal and beautiful, as well as something unique.
The individuality of each vulva, clitoral hood, and nub are finally seen as "potential sensuality". Not, "man - I gotta get me in there" carnality. When looked upon in this context a woman's genitals are exquisite - tender - delicate - orchid's of the female half of the species. The pictures focus me more on the innate beauty of women. As with males with veiny enraged engorgements - it's finally pleasant to see females NOT being penetrated - not swollen and red and glistening for pornography glamorizing male sexual conquest. The nascent beauty can be enjoyed without being ashamed of looking at them in this context nor allowing a female to display a part of their body so villified heretofore by singularly commercial goals.
im a 18 year old female and i have always thought as my lips large and ugly until i seen these ....i am beautiful in everyway even down there i guess lol..sab
I think they are the most beautiful things I ever saw. I would like to buy the book. What is the title called and where can I get a copy? Please e-mail me at wrm10648@yahoo.com Thank you mr_billy
Yes! Isn't it amazing that every woman's vulva is unique! As individual as a woman's personality. I'm surprised and gratified others realize this. I'm a 47 yr old hetero, rather oral, who has gloried in the discovery of each woman's personal masterpiece of nature.
I think I know #3! Just kidding.
Orally loving and appreciating the women I've been intimate with is still my highest pleasure. Causing a pleasurable effect (orgasm, preferably multiple) to another is extremely gratifying!
Oh, no. I disagree. Vaginas aren't the same any more than penises are. There are smooth. Wrinkled. Opening, slits, pouts, lips, lines, biscuits, oh my. I never tire of looking at them. Admiring them. Kissing them.
Whatever. I just disagree.

These are really lovely. I remember that Colors Magazine did a spread once that showed a checkerboard grid of penises and vaginas of various sizes, shapes and colors. what was remarkable was that the different sex organs began to look like a progression rather than a distinct set of two disparate groups. It was outstanding. The very precise centering of focus here on the vagina displays the opposite. differences instead of similarities. The end result of both shoots are the same, however. Convincing us to celebrate our differences...
I must correct my spelling of "monestery". It should be monastery. But anyway, why are you people so surprised at the sight of a vagina? And why does putting it in a pretentious book make it ok and beautiful? Similar pictures, and much more beautiful can be found in places such as Penthouse, Gallery, and Hong Kong 97, found in your local Chinatown. To be true, I agree with what most of you are saying, and most of the article. But it turns me off when you turn around and villainize explicit and erotic magazines. It's like you want to take a step toward the water, but you're afraid to jump in. Yes, let's see more vaginas in movies, paintings, etc!
I think it is arrogant to put down pornography when compared with this "art". Pornography could also be viewed as art. I think this whole Nerve Magazine, and this whole movement of "erotic art" is a pretentious way of indulging in pornography withouth feeling sleezy. Pornography at least is honest. Why don't you either join a monestery/convent, or else just go out and buy a porno magazine? Make up your mind. Stop being a bunch of pretentious hypocrites!
At first I was surprised and couldn't believe what I was seeing. After clicking on the picture and seeing a larger view, I found the pictures to be absolutely wonderful. Black and white certainly enhances it's beauty. I could see the purity of its innocence. My next thoughts were of power and treasure. It reminded me of my first time shopping for a diamond. While looking through the jeweler's loop I could see and feel the power in its reflections and as we all know the value of the right diamond goes beyond what it is measured.
As a newbie to Nerve I was wondering through different pages and came upon this artical. At first I was kinda grossed out. But, as I took the time to read this I have found some beauty in it. Maybe we need to explore our bodies more. And,not be so caught up with wanting every part of every woman looking the same. Maybe in the future girl friends will sit around freely and speak about this type of stuff so freely and openly as this artical. And, it can therefore be something beautiful and erotic at the same time...
ahh esquiste imagery ill admit "what i draw frome them?"longing... ahh invaded, yearning to be invaded~lol defently.ahh but all show with a relaxed postuer.
What is it about women and this "exploitation" thing? Men look at naked women because they enjoy it. The only way the body can be exploited is to create a society where nudity is considered dirty. This creates a market for the grudging exposure of the naughty bits and pieces. The same situation causes drugs to be expensive. Try to force narrow-mindednes through legislation and see what you get.
We look at women because it is a survival technique from our cave man days. Beauty equates with good genes, which improve the race. Monogamy is an artifice demanded by insecure and selfish women. When a woman becomes jealous because her man is simply looking at other women, she is simply defining her insecurity.
My question to the ones concerned with photographic exploitation is this--"If I leave the lid down for you, will you leave it up for me?".
Finally we're getting somewhere! How long have we been on this planet? How long is it taking us to accept, cherish, and enjoy our body parts all of them.
Protraits is wonderful and its also a beginning much like the portraits that were done during the renaissance. I cant wait to see when vaginas and penises will be protrayed in a different light maybe cubism?
Any way thank you.
By the way I'm an artist and I have a few pieces using vaginas as "doorways" in a surreal context using acrylic paint.
Great gallery! I was curious about Beth's comment about the medical community. I manage a net club about GynoFetish, and I would say that interest in female genitalia is alive and well in the hearts and minds of informed men and women out there. We have hundred of guys who would love to do nothing more than spend hours examining a lovely vulva and beyond.
Nice book, and I will recommend it to my fellow gynofets.

years ago there was an exhibit with vulvas as various flowers . i wish people would thin of tham as beutiful carnivorous flowers
i find these portraits beautiful. and yet they show why i am increasingly drawn to men and penises. i think the penis is much sexier.

It would be very nice to find the complete collection of 31 "Portraits" here, not only a selection of 10 of them.

Flipping through them quickly reminded of nothing so much as photos of various galaxies.
Absolutely beautiful.

your Portraits opened my eyes to a different world of which I was not as a writer conscious all these days.
It is a great revelation to me.Thank you.
