Reflections in a Golden Eye
by Rich Kern
People often use the word “ethereal” to describe pretty girls. Usually they're referring to someone who's slight and blonde, perhaps with a bit of a gooney look in her eyes; someone who's delicate and fair. This usage disguises the most interesting and etymologically direct part of the word — the part that means of heaven, of the air. Not in the sense of wispiness or fading, but made of something different and potentially invisible.
