Realities
by Jan Saudek
One of the more memorable lines from classical antiquity appears in the first act of Terence's Self Tormentor: "I am a man, and nothing human is alien to me." This line might well be the motto of Jan Saudek, one of the most affirmative, celebratory and innocent of living photographers. Saudek sings and celebrates the glory of the body like no one since Walt Whitman has; his innocent eye, like Whitman's, looks out and sees beauty everywhere. In Saudek's paradise, characters seem to be suspended in some timeless space.
