Indian Falls is a very undisturbed area in Kentucky. As was the Red River Gorge. The houseboat shot was on Lake Cumberland, another isolated area. The "Ky Girl" shot was a "skinny dipping" area WAY outside Cincinnati. In my day Lexington had just reached 100,000 people and Nicholasville was not a fraction of that. All this aside, the "wilds" comment was not a serious statement. I find deserted areas to shoot in where ever I go...Even NYC! Orange County California where I now live is way more populated than Lexington, but still I find places to shoot. I make my own "wilds" where ever I go. And if you are more interested in words than images....what the hell are you doing looking at photographs any way?
As for the models I have many times commented that without their support my work would not exist. I require more than their nakedness to create my images. These are more like souvenirs of very special times in my life. They are shared with you as such. The "Undiscovered Country" title (Debbie's creation) refers not to a geographical region but an interpersonal one. My older work seems to affect people more mostly (I believe) because the models are not models, but friends. They pose not for money or fame but just because they like me. And I shoot them not for their beauty or sensuality, but because I like them and want to try to express this in the only way I am proficient...not with words, but by creating and freezing a moment in time between us.

This is the true meaning of art to me. These stills are quite realistic to me. I was born in 1976,when most of these photos were taken, and you can realy feel the raw beauty of the women of that era. The female body is a timeless masterpiece captured well in this series.

Very nice photos... but since when is Lexington (or even Paris or Nicholasville) considered the "wilds of Kentucky?"

Echos of a quarter century ago, when I knew southern girls who were perfectly at ease with their powerful sexual auras and casually perfect bodies. The long hair framing a bold, matter-of-fact gaze; the barest hint of amusement at my mesmerized gaze. I recall the swamps of Louisiana and slender young women who could drink me under the table and run naked through a blackberry patch without caution. Climbing a navigation tower along the intracoastal waterway drunk as two skunks, we watched an immense ocean-going tug make her way through the gates with about a foot to spare on each side. Leaning down, hugging her from behind; her breasts like warm water over my palms, neither of us fearing a thing in the world. Memory: a blessing and a curse. Thank you for these photographs, a key in the lock of thankfulness and regret.

This is a neat group of photos. Well done. Hope you're still doing photography. Show more of them. Thanks.

Damn fine.
I was struck by the warmth and open-heartedness of these women, and it shocked me to learn that they were photographed so long ago... there's a timelessness
about them... I can't help but wonder if they have
seen these photos of themselves lately, with fond
reverie...

Rural or not, don't they sell sissors in Cincinnati? Au natural is nice, but time to get a haircut girls. What are you saving that for, a hat?

Hey fellow hedonists, lighten up! I grew up in the "wilds" of southern Ohio just minutes from Kentucky, actually went skinny-dipping with my boyfriend in a place called Turkey Creek, and I swear I had a bathtub like the one in the last frame. If you've ever taken a drive down a country road on a hot summer day to get naked with your lover before heading to the swimming hole, then you'll appreciate these shots. If not, then I offer my condolences. What a wonderful piece of nostalgia! Thanks Nerve.

Walker was more or less kidding around when he called Lexington the "wilds of Kentucky." Hope the text change clears that up.

I, too grew up in Nicholasville and Lexington and agree that these places are far from the "wilds" of Kentucky. This was sort of an absurd thing for Walker to say. S.E.'s scathing negativity otherwise seems unwarranted, though. Having grown up around houses like these, and sometimes the same woods and streams, I believe Walker perfectly utilizes the surroundings to show a glimpse of the essence of these subjects. I'm actually quite touched by them. Also, the "white trash" reference is not necessary. These look to me like normal girls in (what was at the time) their normal environment. Nothing particularly trashy here. Those are just what the cars, clothes, bedsheets and wallpaper looked like, and they were all relatively new at the time. They only look trashy and dated when we look at them with eyes trained to our present cultural landscapes, almost thirty years later.

I almost cracked up when I saw that the first photograph in this series from the "wilds" of Kentucky was taken in Nicholasville, where I grew up. While Nicholasville maybe a hick town it is by no stretch of the imagination wild or wilderness; Lexington is a large University town whose suburban sprawl was well underway by the mid-seventies, and Cincinatti is a damn city.

I'm not sure what he's getting at here, but I know I don't like it. Wild = free = rural = white trash. Sorry guy, pretty pictures but your concept is fucked.

Completely natural and unfolded - open and available. This is so refreshing to view in that there is not the overwhelming forced posture or feeling in any of these shots.

These are truly beautful women.
