Transformer

When I blithely asked Erin Frost about her models (before taking a look at her photos), she replied, "The models are all me, in some form or another." In these self-portraits, Frost takes on many forms, even curling, smoke-like, up what looks like a funhouse mirror. But the idea, she says, is "to make immediate and intimate images, to see how far I can transform, and to capture and document aspects of my own desires." As a baseball catcher, a lounging vamp or a blindfolded wallflower, she seeks, in her words, "perpetual reinvention." Here are sixteen versions of Erin Frost. — Peter Smith
