I've been a fan of Tony
Ward's photography ever since I picked up
a copy of his book Orgasm
XL. In that volume, he captured beauty and eroticism in a generally
less than beautiful and erotic world: that of mass-produced SoCal porn. (Not
that there needs to be beauty in porn for it to work, necessarily. There's a
time
and place for everything.)
The time and place of this gallery is just as brazenly
sexual, but more familiar. In it, models sprawl and stretch, feline-like, on
beds and couches, in the shower, on the living room floor. The images have
an impromptu quality. They resemble shots one might take during an intense but finite sexual relationship. Ward allows us to know each model briefly, intimately; we see everything and not enough.
Simply put, the models in these photographs are dream girls. Like most men, I'd
wistfully offer up my right arm, left nut and all other body parts I could hobble
through life without, just for the chance to spend a night with any one of them.
