Brooke Shields Regrets Losing Her Virginity at 22

Even though Brooke Shields’ image was sexualized from the time she was a young girl, Brooke Shields the person held onto her virginity until she was a Princeton graduate.

I, for one, knew she was a virgin a little later than you might expect because I recall perusing a book she wrote in the ’80s and finding a section titled, “What My Virginity Means to Me.” The kid version of me in that bookstore, being eager for such salacious news, could not read that section fast enough and thought something like, “What a respectable young woman, that Brooke Shields.”

But in a new Q&A with Health magazine, Brooke says she now regrets not losing her virginity until age 22.

She attributes the virginity business to not loving the way she looked at a younger age.

I had the public and all this pressure, and I wish I had just gotten it over with in the beginning when it was sort of OK. I think I would have been much more in touch with myself. I think I wouldnt’ have had issues with weight– I carried this protective 20 pounds [in college]. It was all connected. And to me, that’s a health regret.

She sounds healthy enough now, although that bit about having an extra 20 pounds is unnervingly reminiscent of reading that even Angelina Jolie is dissatisfied with her looks.
