Nevada Senator's Interoffice, Adulterous Love Triangle
By Brian FairbanksJune 18th, 2009, 8:51 amComments (2)
Nevada Republican Senator and Charlie Crist Lookalike Contest Winner John Ensign doesn't believe gays should be allowed to marry, claiming that it hurts families, but what could be more hurtful to a family than having sex with the wife while the husband's at work in your office?
"I believe that marriage should be defined as that between one man and one woman. You want to do what is ideal for children and all of the studies show that the ideal for children is to be in a household with a father and a mother." [on 4/19/09]
"He's accepted responsibility for his actions and apologized to his family and constituents. He offered, and I accepted, his resignation as chairman of the Policy Committee," Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said.... [yesterday's Washington Post]
Ensign's affair came to light on Wednesday. Gawker has the best rundown:
Ensign's affair was with Cynthia Hampton, his reelection campaign treasurer. Hampton's husband was an administrative assistant, which is awkward. Even more awkward: the Hamptons are broke, and maybe defaulting on their shitty mortgage.
Methinks there will be more bizarre details in the next few days... stay tuned.

As we predicted, there was more to the story: 1) Ensign was technically cheating on his wife and 2) Ensign paid his mistress’ son over $5,000 for a few months of suspicious “research” work.
